Are you ready to schedule your first appointment?

Great.

Here are a few things to bear in mind to make your experience as pleasant as possible:

1. Plan ahead of time for before and after your appointment.

Make certain that you are not engaged in any stressful activity prior to or following your acupuncture treatment.

Furthermore, do not overbook yourself on the day of your appointment because you want to be relaxed throughout the acupuncture session.

2. Have a snack. Going on an empty stomach can make you feel dizzy or lightheaded.

3. Avoid drinking coffee for at least two hours prior to your acupuncture appointment. Coffee, as a stimulant, raises your body's fight-or-flight reaction,

which acupuncture aims to reduce.

4. Dress in loose-fitting garments.

Your acupuncturist may request that you change into a robe,

or he or she may be able to reach the required points by rolling up

your pant legs or sleeves.

Wear loose-fitting clothing to make it easier for them.

5. Bring a list of all your current medications and supplements with you.

As a precaution, bring a list of all your current drugs and supplements,

especially if herbs are part of your treatment.

This is due to the fact that certain herb-drug combinations might be dangerous.

6. This will not be a one-time event.

Expect your acupuncturist to suggest additional visits.

Even if you feel alleviation after the first visit,

The effects of acupuncture grow over time.
